Critical Thinking

Field task · Unit 5 of 5 · 5 min

Twenty-four hours of "how do I know that?"

For one day, catch yourself stating something as fact and quietly ask where it came from. Not out loud, not to correct anyone — just to see how much of what you assert you have actually checked.

Out in the world

  1. 1Pick a normal day. No special preparation.
  2. 2Each time you assert something confidently — in conversation, in a message, in your own head — pause for two seconds.
  3. 3Ask: did I verify this, or did I absorb it from someone I trust?
  4. 4Notice, without judgment, how often the honest answer is the second one.
  5. 5Come back here and write down what you found.
